Unite Community to come to York!

photoUnite the union has established a national initiative called ‘Unite Community’. Unite Community will act as a union for the unemployed and the retired who cannot join most work unions. They will soon be setting up a branch in York to continue their work in giving a voice to those who are marginalised by society.

To show YPA’s support of this project, and to assist the residents of York in the interim, we will holding a stall every week at the bottom of Colliergate, outside Heron Foods. We will use this stall to provide information, leaflets and advice about different aspects of the benefits system and how the recent changes may affect people. We will also offer information about Unite Community and how it will help people in York once it is set up.
Although the stall is still in its early days, we have received a very positive response from the public, with several people coming to us each week for help.
We hold the stall every Thursday 12-2pm, and it is run solely by volunteers. If you want to help out for a 1- or 2-hour slot, please add your name here http://doodle.com/diq62987txdfa9c4
