Summer might be over, but our movement isn’t

With the summer break now almost behind us, it’s time to get back together and start planning our autumn activities. From local action against welfare cutbacks, to a massive union-led march demanding Britain get’s a pay-rise, the cost-of-living crisis won’t go unchallenged. Our next ‘Decision Meeting’ will be a brilliant chance for anyone who’s interested in getting more involved to turn up and get stuck in. Its almost a complete fresh start, and you can help us shape it. We’ll be meeting on Monday 1st September from 7.30pm at the TSSA union office by the pedestrian crossing on Nunnery Lane. We hope to see you there!

Turning up the heat this Summer

The People’s Assembly “No More Austerity” march and free festival is just weeks away, and coach tickets are selling well. But that’s not the only major anti-austerity action planned for the summer months. Unions are balloting members for joint strike action on public sector pay. If successful, Thursday 10th July could see a million on strike in education, health and local government, and we’ll be supporting them. CareUK strikers to speak in York

CareUK PicketWe’re delighted to announce that two of the CareUK strikers will be joining us on Monday night to share their experiences and the ways we can support them. We’d love to hand them a big donation from the people of York, so why not hold a collection around your workplace or friends? You can download a collection sheet here. The meeting is at 7.30pm, Monday 12th May at the TSSA office on Nunnery Lane, and will be followed by our regular Decision Meeting.

Rolling out the Red Carpet

This Monday, we’re delighted to be showing Cathy Denford’s new film ‘On the Edge’ – a 30 minute drama about the effects of austerity on the most marginal. Last year we helped Cathy gather footage of political action against cuts, with group members appearing in the film. We hope you’ll join us at 7.30pm at the TSSA Office on Nunnery Lane.

After the film and a discussion, we’ll have a shortened Decision Meeting covering the People’s Assembly National Demonstration, Teaching and CareUK strikes and a chance to discuss our reflections on the Lib Dem conference march with a Yorkshire TUC officer.

Changes to upcoming meeting dates

Our ‘Decision Meetings’ are vital to the health of our campaign. They allow people to connect with what’s going on, find ways of contributing and collectively plan activities to tackle Austerity and its effects on people’s lives. Due to Bank Holidays, we’ve switched a few of them around. Our next meetings will be Monday 14th and 28th April and 12th May. They’ll be at 7.30pm at the TSSA Union Office on Nunnery Lane (Map location A). Here’s a flavour of what’s coming up: Continue reading
