University and College staff across our city are going on strike on Tuesday, and York People’s Assembly will against stand with them. We’re teaming up with Universityof York and York College UCU branches and others for a rally in St Helen’s Square from 12.30pm on Tuesday lunchtime. We hope as many people as possible will join us.
We recognise that highly skilled and motivated professionals are at the core of any quality education system. But so is fair access for students, regardless of economic background. All of this is under threat, and on Tuesday, we have the opportunity to bring together people from across our community: staff, students, parents, graduates, and those who benefit from education (that’s anyone who’s been to the doctor, for a start).
There’ll also be a chance to show solidarity earlier in the morning – by visiting picket lines at York St John (Lord Mayor’s Walk), University of York and York College (Tadcaster Road) campuses.
